Effect of di-tert-butyl peroxide on the combustion process and emissions of biodiesel

The cetane number improver di-tert-butyl peroxide (Di-tert-butyl peroxide, DTBP) is used to improve the ignition performance of biodiesel. Through the diesel engine bench test, the cylinder pressure and emission pollutants of the diesel engine at the calibrated speed of 2900r/min and different loads were measured, and the effects of different DTBP addition ratios on the combustion process and emissions of biodiesel were investigated. The research results show that with the increase of the proportion of DTBP, the ignition delay period and the maximum explosion pressure in the cylinder are reduced.When the proportion of DTBP is 0.75%, the delay period is shortened by about 1.2°CA, and the combustion duration is shortened by 3°CA. The maximum explosion pressure in the cylinder is reduced by 2.5%; after adding DTBP, the HC, CO, and NOx emissions are all improved.When the DTBP addition ratio is 0.25%, the emissions are reduced the most: HC emissions are reduced by 42.7%, and CO emissions by 13.9%. NOx emissions were reduced by 15.7%. With the increase of DTBP addition ratio, the emissions increased slightly, but it had little effect on soot emissions.
